Marine Corps Memorial in Washington, D.C. honors Marines who have lost
their lives in defense of the United States. The Memorial, also known as
the Iwo Jima Memorial, is a replica of a famous photo taken of a group
of Marines raising a flag during the 1945 US invasion of Iwo Jima. The
original photo was shot by legendary photographer Joe Rosenthal. The
Memorial is located across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C. near
Arlington National Cemetery. |
